A decentralized exchange removes the custodian from the trading process. Users trade directly from their own wallets, and settlement happens on-chain rather than inside a company’s internal ledger. Depending on the design, this can take the form of an automated market maker quoting prices off a liquidity pool, an on-chain order book matching bids and asks directly, or a hybrid model built to balance speed with transparency.
